REMEMBRANCE

How We Remember
The Russell Legion is deeply committed to preserving and promoting the spirit of Remembrance through meaningful programs and initiatives that honour those who have served and inspire future generations to remember their sacrifices.

Each year, our Annual Remembrance Day Ceremonies bring together veterans, serving members, youth, community organizations, and residents to pay tribute to the courage, service, and sacrifice of Canada's military personnel. These ceremonies provide an opportunity for our community to reflect, remember, and express our collective gratitude.

Through the Annual Poppy Campaign, we proudly uphold one of Canada's most recognized symbols of remembrance. Donations received during the campaign directly support veterans, their families, and local veteran initiatives while ensuring the tradition of wearing the poppy continues to remind us of the cost of freedom.

The Legion is also proud to encourage young people to learn about Canada's military history through the National Youth Remembrance Contests. Students are invited to express their understanding of remembrance through posters, literary works, and essays, helping to ensure that the stories and sacrifices of our veterans are never forgotten.

Remembrance extends beyond ceremonies and commemorative events. Working in partnership with the Township of Russell, the Legion is working hard to support a variety of Community Remembrance Projects to preserve our local military heritage and ensure the service and sacrifice of our veterans remain visible throughout our community.

We are also proud to accept submissions to the Ontario Command Military Service Recognition Book, which serves as a lasting tribute to the men and women from our community who have answered the call to serve.

Through these ongoing efforts, the Russell Legion remains dedicated to ensuring that the legacy of those who served is remembered, honoured, and passed on to future generations.
