Cadets
The Russell Legion is very proud to work with and support both 5 Cyclone Air Cadets and 2804 Army Cadets. Our Branch, through our Youth and Education Chair, provides financial, administrative and planning support to our local cadets. This includes yearly donations, occasional hall usage, and the coordination of cadet participation in our local poppy campaign and Remembrance Day ceremonies.
At the end of each year, the Cadets take part in an Annual Ceremonial Review to showcase the accomplishment and skills they gain during their year of training. One Cadet from each group is chosen annually to receive the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence. This award is given to a Cadet who demonstrates outstanding citizenship, and who meets or enhances the aims and objectives of the cadet program. Criteria for selection include leadership, community involvement, and exemplary conduct within the Corps/Squadron.
The 2026 recipients of the RCL Cadet Medal of Excellence are Sgt Castonguay from the 2804 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (Casselman), and WO 2nd Class Lohnes of 5 Cyclone Royal Canadian Air Cadet Sqn (Russell).
