A Legacy of Service
The Royal Canadian Legion has served Veterans, promoted remembrance, and stregthened communities across Canada for more than a century. Branch 372 has proudly carried that mission forward since 1946.
Royal Canadian Legion History
To help those who had served and make sure their efforts were remembered, a large number of veterans' groups were established across Canada in the years after World War I, from 1915 to 1925. In 1925, a number of these groups united to join The Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League, realizing the power of a single voice. The organization was formally incorporated on July 17, 1926, making it a separate, national organization. The organization's name was changed to The Royal Canadian Legion in 1961 with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's approval after allusions to the British Empire were eliminated in 1959.
With more than 1,350 branches around the country, the Royal Canadian Legion is currently the top veteran's support group in Canada. Although Legion's original purpose was to serve First World War soldiers, its goals have since changed.
Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and current Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, together with their families, have been added to its support in recent decades.
Supporting Veterans, promoting their well-being, encouraging Remembrance, and serving communities across Canada are the core values of the Royal Canadian Legion, a member-based, non-profit organization.
Long, Twiname, Henderson (LTH) Br. 372 History
In the Spring of 1946, local Veterans of the First and Second World Wars came together to form a Veterans' organization to support one another and to honour those who had served and sacrificed. The group applied for a Royal Canadian Legion charter under the initials L.T.H., in honour of Pilot Officer Stewart Long, Pilot Officer Eric Twiname, and Warrant Officer Gordon Henderson, three members of the Royal Canadian Air Force from the surrounding area who were killed in action during WWII.
In 1954, the Branch purchased two lots along with an existing building, which was renovated to serve as a space for meetings, social gatherings, suppers, and dances. Additional property was acquired in 1967, with plans to construct a new hall that would include modern amenities, including indoor plumbing. Just in time for the Branch's 25th anniversary in 1971, the new Legion hall was opened.
The year 2026 marks the 80th anniversary of Branch 372, Long, Twiname, Henderson (LTH). The Branch proudly continues its mission of serving Veterans, promoting Remembrance and supporting the wider community.
